You Won’t Believe Why Social Media’s Favorite Black Couple Kristy and Desmond Scott Are Calling it Quits

In news we didn’t see coming, popular social media couple Kristy and Desmond Scott have sent shockwaves online after filing for divorce. Known for their hilarious prank videos, the once-beloved pair has officially split – and fans are processing the breakup. Here’s what we know.

Kristy Scott, best known for her family-focused and playful pranks on her husband Desmond, built a massive following by turning their family life into comedic viral moments (as of press time, she has 9.5 million Instagram followers). The couple has been together since the age of 14; they married in 2014 and share two young boys, Vance and Westin.

According to TMZ, court documents filed in Harris County, Texas, reveal that Kristy cited alleged infidelity with no chance of reconciliation. The filing also notes that the couple “will soon stop living together as husband and wife,” per the documents. Yikes!

The pair also co-owns Meant To Be Films, a production company focused on wedding videography and storytelling, though there is currently no word on how the business will be divided.

The split comes as a complete blindside to fans, especially since the couple built their platform around their joint content. From chaotic pranks and home renovations to laugh-out-loud family moments, the Scotts dominated our timelines – though Kristy’s last post featuring Desmond was in early December.

Fans have taken to social media to share their reactions about the split.

“This is too much, y’all. We just started 2026,” one TikTok user wrote.

“Kristy will be okay. She’ll overcome this. She did what was best for her!” said another.

X users seem to be taking the news just as hard. One user wrote, “Nooooo that’s so sad.. didn’t they just build/ move into their dream home too.. crazy how you can never take couples’ posts seriously on social. Sad for the kids.”

“Running the risk of sounding parasocial,” another X user posted. “I can not believe desmond allegedly cheated on kristy, like sir?! KRISTY SARAH?!”

Nearly 24 hours after the news broke, Desmond Scott took to Instagram story to issue a public statement, including an apology to his wife, Kristy.

“I want to begin by apologizing to Kristy, our family, and everyone who has been impacted by the public attention surrounding this situation,” Scott wrote. “I know this news has been disappointing for many, and I’m truly sorry for the hurt it has caused.”

In the statement, Desmond made it clear that the separation was his decision. While he didn’t get into the nitty-gritty about the infidelity mentioned in the court documents, he acknowledged that their marriage had been struggling for some time.

“Toward the end of 2025, I wanted to separate, and I had a conversation with Kristy about it. During this period, I made decisions that I was not proud of,” he continued. “I took responsibility for these actions, I shared this with her directly and personally, and ultimately we decided to divorce.”

He ended by asking for “privacy and compassion” as they navigate what he describes as a “difficult chapter of our lives.”

Following the release of the statement, commentators weren’t holding back.

“Making a statement under the guise of being genuine and heartfelt just to add ‘I wanted to separate’ is nasty!” an X user posted. “She filed for divorce, so he had to let everyone know he was the one who wanted to separate. Cheating wasn’t enough; he had to make sure y’all knew that detail, too! Whew…”

Over on TikTok, the conversation continued.

“Separation is not a clearance to cheat,” a TikTok user posted.

Another followed up: “It appears that they had issues BEFORE he cheated. He also stated he asked for a separation and as my mom used to say, ‘when you don’t listen, you feel.’ We can’t force people to stay when people want to leave.”

As social media continues to react to Desmond’s statement, Kristy remains active online. At this time, she has yet to release a statement. We will continue to be on the lookout.
