Why These 2 Comedians Owed Rep. Jasmine Crockett the Biggest Apology EVER

While many saw Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s 2026 bid for Senate as a longtime coming, she’s been facing harsh criticism from Republicans and conservatives who are tired of the Democratic party… And shockingly, she’s also catching it from non-Black folks who want her to give up already.

Comedian Matt Rogers and ex-SNL star Bowen Yang weighed in on the current state of politics during a Jan. 7 episode of their podcast, the “Las Culturistas.” When the issue of the midterm elections was brought up, the two men almost immediately turned their attention to Crockett and practically begged their fans to not support her.

“Don’t waste your money sending to Jasmine Crockett, do not do it. You’re going to waste your money,” Rogers said with Yang agreeing. He also admitted being turned off “anytime a politician is making it too obviously about themselves,” suggesting Crockett is a part of this bunch. The comedian reportedly donated to Sarah Gideon, the Maine Representative who lost her Senate run in 2020.

We previously told you Crockett announced her run for Senate following unprecedented redistricting efforts by the Trump administration. In her relatively short political career, Crockett has become one of the leading voices in her party– especially when it comes down to her ability to call out President Donald Trump. Still, it seems Rogers and Yang aren’t impressed.

Rogers continued on the episode, “Let me just qualify the Jasmine Crockett thing. She’s not going to win a Senate seat in Texas, you guys. If Beto O’Rourke couldn’t do it, Jasmine Crockett is not going to do it.” He said, “It’s nothing against her, it’s just that she is a politician, in that she is very well-defined already, and it’s my opinion that we’re going to need someone who is less defined at this moment that rises up.”

On the January 7, 2026, episode of their podcast Las Culturistas, comedians Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang (current SNL cast member) urged their listeners not to donate to Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s 2026 U.S. Senate campaign in Texas. The specific comments and subsequent reactions include: Key Statements “Waste of Money”: Rogers explicitly told listeners, “Don’t waste your money sending to Jasmine Crockett. Do not do it… You’re going to waste your money”. Yang immediately co-signed the sentiment, stating, “I must agree” and “It’s hard enough to come by”. Electability Argument: Rogers argued that Crockett is “too well-defined” as a politician to win a statewide race in Texas. He claimed that if a more moderate white male candidate like Beto O’Rourke could not win, Crockett—a progressive Black woman—would also be unable to succeed in the general election. Alternative Endorsement: Rogers expressed interest in James Talarico, another Democratic candidate for the seat, describing him as a “rising Democratic politician” who is “speaking a little bit to the middle” and is less “defined” in the public eye

Black folks online quickly called out Rogers and Yang, pointing out the men don’t even live in Texas. “Everyone has so many uninformed opinions about our senate race in Texas,” TikTok user @blackgirlswhobrunch said.

“They loved Jasmine when she was the sassy woman in the background with the good reads. They loved her for that and said that the Democratic party needed more people like her in leadership,” @katkris0823 wrote. “It’s literally the same exact playbook that they used on Kamala. They loved Kamala when she was in the background but the second she [ascended] higher, she was torn down.”

On Saturday (Jan. 10), Rogers took to his Instagram to formally respond to the backlash. “I hear the response and I am taking every bit of it to heart, I promise,” he said. “Transparency and candor matter to me, especially on the podcast. I’m a very progressive person who cares deeply about winning these elections, but my phrasing was not right. I will be more thoughtful! I really do promise.”

He continued clarifying his stance on the Texas Democrat. “I have great respect and admiration for Rep. Crockett, and I regret that my words suggested otherwise. I just want us to win and I will be better at finding ways to help.”

Yang, however, was slow to respond. He reposted Rogers’ apology and added, “should not have cursorily weighed in on this. understanding the platform and will use it more responsibly.” Crockett has not responded to the comments yet.
