WATCH: Multiple Videos Show Moments Before and After Minneapolis Mother Is Killed by ICE
All eyes are on the city of Minneapolis after an American citizen was fatally shot by an immigration enforcement officer on duty. Videos taken from the tragic scene continue to flood the internet as officials claimed self defense while the city’s mayor and other leaders described the killing as “reckless” and horrific.
In the video, several ICE agents get into an altercation with a group of protesters on Wednesday (Jan. 7). One official can be seen standing close to the victim’s car before shooting inside her vehicle. The woman– identified as Renee Nicole Good— allegedly tried to drive off but crashed into multiple parked cars before she was declared dead. Bystander videos have raked in millions of views online, as many Black users express their disbelief over the shooting and other ICE-related incidents.
“ICE harms innocent people…wtf is the point again,” @ladidaix said on X. The shooting took place just blocks from where George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police in 2020, according to reports.
Another user declared the shooting will be a turning point for the Democratic party. “Every Democrat should have already had ABOLISH ICE in your platform, but if you didn’t you better have it now,” @Respect2BG wrote.
The mayor of Minneapolis, Democrat Jacob Frey, is one of the loudest voices condemning ICE. He’s been under heavy scrutiny as President Donald Trump continues his targeted ICE raids in the city. During a press conference after the shooting, Frey said he had one simple message for immigration agents. “Get the f**k out of Minneapolis,” he demanded.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has pledged to “stand with ICE” amid the fallout of the shooting. ICE has since released a statement determine the shooting was “self defense.” It read, “ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.”
Minn. Gov. Tim Walz had a very different account of the incident. “I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe this propaganda machine,” he said on X. “The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris also spoke out on X. “Many of us have seen the horrifying and painful video, which makes it clear that the Trump administration’s explanation of this shooting is pure gaslighting,” she wrote. “A full and fair investigation at the state level is absolutely necessary.”
According to the video, the victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle when two ICE agents approached her. They demanded she exit her car and began pulling at her front door. That’s when the woman, who had been parked in the middle of the street, blocking ICE from advancing allegedly tried to drive off. A third agent then shoots directly into her car, killing her.
It’s not clear from the videos if the woman’s vehicle made contact with the officer as the Trump administration has suggested. But already folks online came to their own conclusions too.
@TeeJay80 said, “Yeah they wasn’t in front of that car and wasn’t in any danger of getting ran over.”
“He jumped in front to shoot her in the face. Atp hell isn’t good enough. Someone needs to start sniping them,” @htwnhawtieee tweeted.
The shooting comes one week after an off-duty ICE agent shot and killed a Black man named Keith Porter Jr. in California. Protesters continue to flood the neighborhood where Good was killed. She leaves behind one son.
